In his message “Love Covers a Multitude of Sin,” Pastor Tim warns us that nothing will shipwreck our faith like sin, challenging us to hold onto faith and good conscience as Paul instructs Timothy in 1 Timothy 1:9, because sin affects our faith, God’s presence, our prayer life, and our fellowship with others. Drawing from Genesis 3 and James’s teaching on temptation’s progression, Pastor Tim reveals that sin is deceptive—it looks good, feels good, and makes us think we are good—but temptation promises things we don’t have and shouldn’t have, never satisfying what we truly desire since we are only made complete through Jesus Christ. He emphasizes that while sin may be fun and self-satisfying for a season, like Moses we must count the cost and choose to suffer affliction with God’s people rather than enjoy the pleasures of sin, recognizing that sin will take us farther than we want to go, keep us longer than we want to stay, and cost us more than we want to pay.
Pastor Tim proclaims that because of the cross, our sins—past, present, and future—are covered under Christ’s love, and through His death and resurrection, the power of sin has been broken in our lives, giving us the freedom to make choices. Let us walk in the power and freedom Christ provides, remembering that if we want to be His followers we must give up our own way, take up our cross daily, and follow Him, living as overcomers and more than conquerors through Jesus Christ our Lord who rules us with wonderful grace instead of sin’s dominion.
